High-quality natural cultivation Polygonatum Odoratum
Polygonatum odoratum, also known as "tail ginseng", "ground pipe", "bell vegetable", "wei Rui", is a perennial herb of the Asparagaceae family (Asparagaceae) and the Polygonatum genus. In terms of morphology, the rhizome of Polygonatum odoratum is cylindrical, with a diameter of 5 to 14 millimeters. The stem is 20 to 50 centimeters tall, and the leaves are alternate, elliptical to ovate-oblong. The inflorescence has 1 to 4 flowers (up to 8 in cultivation), the perianth is yellowish-green to white, and the perianth tube is relatively straight. Filamentous, nearly smooth to with papillary protrusions. The berries are blue-black and have 7 to 9 seeds. The flowering period is from May to June and the fruiting period is from July to September.
Polygonatum odoratum can grow in low mountains, hills or valleys at an altitude of 500 to 3,000 meters. In terms of soil requirements, it thrives in slightly acidic, loose sandy yellow soil with good color. Soil with a pH value of 5.5 to 6.0 is the most suitable. It prefers shade, moisture and is afraid of waterlogging. Polygonatum odoratum is widely distributed in the temperate zones of Eurasia, growing in areas such as under forests and on the shady slopes of mountains. Polygonatum odoratum is grown or cultivated in most provinces and autonomous regions of China. Genuine varieties can be found in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Hebei, Ningxia, Hubei, Hunan, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Guangdong and other provinces.
Polygonatum odoratum is a plant that can be used both as medicine and food. The Chinese Pharmacopoeia records that Polygonatum odoratum is sweet and slightly cold in nature, and it enters the lung and stomach meridians. It nourishes Yin and moistens dryness, promotes the production of body fluids and quenches thirst. It is used for Yin deficiency in the lung and stomach, dry and hot cough, dry throat and mouth, and internal heat with polydipsia. The suitable extensive management of Polygonatum odoratum is of great significance for enriching the resources of ornamental plants in adverse conditions and building ecological and energy-saving gardens. Its flowers, fruits and leaves all have high ornamental value and it is an excellent ground cover plant.
1. Efficacy and Function
1. Nourishing yin and moistening dryness
Yuzhu is sweet and moist, slightly cold in nature, and good at nourishing the yin of the lungs and stomach. It can alleviate problems caused by yin deficiency, such as dry throat and mouth, dry skin, and constipation. It is especially suitable for conditioning during the dry autumn season or in the later stages of heat diseases.
2. Promote saliva production and quench thirst
It can promote saliva secretion, improve appetite loss caused by insufficient stomach yin, red tongue with scanty tongue coating, and thirst symptoms associated with diseases such as diabetes.
3. Moistening the lungs and relieving cough
It has a soothing effect on dry coughs due to lung dryness, with little or no phlegm. It is often used in combination with ingredients such as sand ginseng and ophiopogon japonicus for conditions like chronic bronchitis and pulmonary tuberculosis, which are characterized by lung yin deficiency.
4. Enhance immunity
Modern research indicates that Polygonatum odoratum polysaccharides possess antioxidant and immune-regulating properties, and can assist in improving physical weakness or post-illness fatigue.
II. Main indications
Dry cough due to lung dryness: such as dry cough with little phlegm, dry and sore throat, often used in combination with Adenophora and Fritillaria.
Deficiency of stomach yin: Characterized by dry mouth and throat, and decreased appetite. It is often combined with Dendrobium and Ophiopogon japonicus.
Internal heat and thirst: used for diabetes or excessive thirst and drinking caused by the depletion of body fluid after high fever.
Yin deficiency and exogenous infection: Combine with peppermint and fermented soybeans to alleviate cold symptoms in individuals with a yin deficiency constitution.
III. Usage Notes
1. Use with caution in cases of spleen and stomach deficiency-cold: Yuzhu (a traditional Chinese medicine) is slightly cold in nature. It is not suitable for use alone in individuals with diarrhea, intolerance to cold, or a white and greasy tongue coating.
2. Compatibility contraindications: Avoid taking this medicine with antihypertensive drugs, as it may enhance the efficacy and lead to hypotension; specific medication should be followed as prescribed by a doctor.
3. Suggestions for both medicinal and edible use: It can be used to make Congee (such as Yuzhu glutinous rice Congee), brewed into tea (with goji berries and honey), or added to stews. The daily dosage is preferably 10-15 grams.
Yuzhu (a traditional Chinese medicine) is mild in nature, but its usage needs to be adjusted according to individual constitution and symptoms. If used for disease treatment, it is recommended to use it under the guidance of a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner based on syndrome differentiation, and avoid long-term and large-scale self-administration.
