Fritillaria cirrhosa D. Don, a perennial herb of the genus Fritillaria in the Liliaceae family, can grow up to 50 cm. The leaves are opposite, elongated to lanceolate. The flowers are usually single, purple to yellowish green. Each flower has leaf-like bracts, which are long and narrow. The anthers are close to the base. The capsule has narrow wings on the long ridges. It flowers from May to July and bears fruit from August to October.
It is mainly distributed in Tibet, Yunnan and Sichuan of China, and can also be found in Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, Shaanxi and Shanxi, as well as in Nepal. It usually grows in forests, under shrublands, grasslands, river beaches, valleys and other wetlands or rock crevices.
This species is one of the main sources of the medicinal herb "Chuanbei". It is a precious traditional Chinese medicine for moistening the lungs and relieving cough. It has a long history of application and is well-known both at home and abroad.
