About Chenpi (Tangerine Peel)
Chenpi is the dried mature peel of Citrus reticulata Blanco from the Rutaceae family. This medicinal material is classified into "dried tangerine peel" and "broad dried tangerine peel," harvested from mature fruits that are peeled and dried naturally in sunlight or through low-temperature processes.
True Chenpi must meet specific criteria: it must be naturally aged in designated regions using particular citrus varieties and environmental conditions. Only when it develops distinct properties, aromas, and therapeutic effects—and demonstrates the characteristic of improving with age—can it be authentically called aged tangerine peel.
The Art of Aging
The essence of dried tangerine peel lies in the aging process. The character "Chen" signifies transformation through time. The unique aroma and medicinal properties develop gradually during aging. Only varieties with genuine aging potential qualify as "aged tangerine peel."
