FIG (Latin name: Ficus carica Linn.) is a deciduous shrub or small tree of the genus Ficus in the Moraceae family. The plant is multi-branched, and the leaves are small lobed ovate with irregular blunt teeth along the margin. The fruit grows in the axils of the leaves, is pear-shaped, and turns purplish red or yellow when ripe. Figs actually have flowers, but their inflorescences are cryptomerous inflorescences. The flowers are hidden within the fruits. The fruits we usually eat are mainly the flowers of figs. Wild FIG trees can only be pollinated by their companion insect, the FIG wasp.

The FIG is one of the oldest cultivated fruit trees in the world. It is native to the Mediterranean coast. It was introduced to China from Persia in the Han Dynasty and to the Central Plains from Xinjiang in the Tang Dynasty. It is now cultivated in both the north and the south, with the majority in the southern part of Xinjiang. [10] Figs prefer a warm and humid climate, can tolerate poor soil and dryness, and are best planted in deep, loose, fertile and well-drained sandy loam. This species has a wide variety of species, with common ones including Brannick, Penglai persimmon and Qingpi.
